Elevators 29 (1.0 hr)

Rolling the leading edges is officially my least favorite thing to do.  In other words… it stinks.  I’m not going to go into much detail.  Suffice it to say that the right elevator leading edge is about 50% done, but it took entirely too long to get this far.  With my 1″ pipe the edges weren’t coming together in the way I would like.  I used my hands and got it close.

The endeavor got me thinking.  The pipe seems to bend it in the middle.  Near the edge and near the spar the aluminum is straight.  What I’ve decided to try is a couple other pipes of different diameter to get the bend closer to the way I want before riveting.  I’ll tackle that this weekend. 20130918-192851.jpg20130918-192905.jpg20130918-192921.jpg20130918-192913.jpg

Wings Shipped… finally

Van’s contacted me with the shipping carrier and tracking information yesterday.  The wings are traveling with Old Dominion and have left Portland bound for Indianapolis.  Old Dominion has estimated next Tuesday as the delivery date.  Finally, I can resume my excited anticipation after almost a three week delay…

Wings not shipped!! 1

Based on the information provided by Van’s I was expecting the wings to arrive any day.  I still hadn’t heard anything from the shipping company, so I called Van’s to find out what was going on.  To my surprise, I was told the wings had not shipped!  They had told me both by letter and on the phone that all was on schedule for them to ship the week of 19 August (that’s with the carrier no later than 23 August).  Apparently they ran out of leading edge skins and had to make more so my kit is still sitting in Oregon.  Ann said they would call me as soon as they ship which they expect to be by this Friday.  Fingers crossed!
