Hangar!!!

I’ve got a hangar and a hangar mate!  Jim Bates, who is also building an RV-8, is going to share the space with me and use it as temporary storage for his plane.  I’ll have plenty of space left over to build until I’m further along.

Unfortunately, the hangar doesn’t have a full concrete floor, but I’m on the list for a larger one.

This feels like a small, but major step, towards having a flying plane of my own.

Practice Kit

Jack Savage joined me today to help teach me proper riveting technique. I have squeezed rivets and back riveted before, but I’ve never really used a gun and bucking bar, so I wanted some practice. Jack walked me through the remainder of my practice kit. He also gave me a lot of advice regarding tools and shop setup. It was a great learning experience.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  Hope everyone had a good break.  Mine was fantastic (Austria and Slovakia) but we both got the flu towards the end.

The new HS-810 arrived while I was gone.  I’m ready to complete that and get to work, and I’m planning to finish the practice kit very soon, although the entire kit will have to wait for a little while as our Kubota tractor needs some repairs.  I’ve got to replace the water pump and remove two hydraulic cylinders for new seals.  As soon as I get that done I’ll be back to work.
