Practice Kit with Mike Bullock (0 hrs)

Mike Bullock offered to give me a hand working on the practice kit at the last EAA chapter meeting, and today I took him up on the offer. We were able to get about 2/3 of the way through the project. The stiffeners are attached to the skin, and the spars and ribs have started to be drilled. More importantly, I got to try my hands at many of the skills that I needed for building. I feel much more confident to be starting this project. We plan to finish the practice kit in the next week or so.

First Practice Rivets! (0 hrs)

Today, John Raffensparger, the local EAA tech counselor brought me some rivets and scrap metal to practice with. I used the air hammer, and bucking bars I recently purchased from John to try my hand at a few rivets. I didn’t have a proper clamp or vice, so it wasn’t a very professional setup, but I was still able to place a few horrible rivets! Here’s a photo of the result. Still lots to learn and practice.
