Shop Setup (0 hrs)
Did a little rearranging in the shop today in anticipation of picking up the kit and tools next weekend. Also labeled and organized a number of tools.

Some time ago I put an ad on VAF for used tools. Peter Cheney replied to my email, and has a ton of tools that are virtually new. I’ve been talking back and forth with Peter, and it turns out that he is also looking to sell his RV-8 empennage kit. The kit has been barely touched and has the electric trim option. My buddy James and I are planning to drive up (Toronto, Canada) this weekend (7-9 December) to pick it all up. I’ll be getting a great deal and I’ll finally be able to start construction. Pretty soon the hours will start to tick upwards on this blog!
I’ve attached a list of the tools Peter is selling below. The tools I intend to buy have been highlighted. Peter offered to sell them at 35% off, and the empennage kit for $1,400. Both were reasonable prices, and I didn’t want to haggle as he’s been fair and honest.
Mike Bullock offered to give me a hand working on the practice kit at the last EAA chapter meeting, and today I took him up on the offer. We were able to get about 2/3 of the way through the project. The stiffeners are attached to the skin, and the spars and ribs have started to be drilled. More importantly, I got to try my hands at many of the skills that I needed for building. I feel much more confident to be starting this project. We plan to finish the practice kit in the next week or so.
