GEA24 Wiring 2
Oh man. The GEA24 has 4 connectors. The ElectroAir ECU has 2. All of them in a small hard to reach area all the way down by the rudder pedals. Wires coming from the panel down needed to be terminated with the appropriate length and routing. The connectors going to the FWF were much easier. Because I planned to terminate those and trim to length on the FWF end, I was able to build most, but not all, of the connector connections out on the bench, and then move the wire into the footwell and plumb the wires through the firewall to the engine. Still, this wiring work was brutal. With the spar digging in my back, limited room to move, my arms quickly got tired, my neck ached, and my back hurt. I had to take breaks every so often, and the work moved excruciatingly slow.
Radio Transmit Troubleshooting
Recently I’ve been firing up all the avionics systems and testing everything that I could. This included testing receive and transmit on both radios and with both headsets. Turns out I can’ transmit on the pilot’s headset. Whoever installed these connections, clearly messed something up. Sure enough, upon inspection, I had reversed two wires. The crazy thing… You can see where I had them correct, and then reversed them. So somehow I had them installed correctly, got confused, reversed the two wires into the wrong position and completed the installation. Regardless, I fixed the connection and all is now working with both radios and both headsets!!
